Bread Of Life

Bread Of Life

We received a surprise package full of muffins, brownies and flour mix from the Bread Of Life bakery, which has a gluten-, lactose-, tree nut-free facility in Missouri. Until eating these muffins, I had mistakenly thought "...the only good thing to come out of Missouri was Mark Twain!" (To quote Bill Bryson...again.)

With way too many muffins for just us two petite celiac chicks to eat all by ourselves, we decided to put them to the true test - we set them out on a platter in our day job office and waited to hear either grumbles or inquiries from the gluten gluttons. When it comes to food these people are brutally honest.

We waited patiently.....

As it turned out, even our pickiest co-workers had positive things to say about these muffin treats. Maybe it was because of the neutral taste of the sorghum flour, or maybe it was due to the generous sugar content? Who knows, but some even asked if they could take an extra muffin for their breaky the next morning!! Now that is the true tell tale sign of deliciousness!

The two most popular flavors among our test subjects were the carrot cake and apple pie muffins.  These goodies can be purchased in the southwestern United States at various health food stores, including Whole Foods. They will soon be available in other regions, but in the meantime you can order these and other Bread Of Life treats online.

I love sorghum flour - it seems to result in better gf baked goods.

Yup...sorghum flour has been my flour of choice for awhile now...it's more nutritious and fortunately neutral tasting!

Ok, I was just at Whole Foods and I didn't see these (I live in AZ) I will have to look again. I agree with you, when the non-GF people approve, us GF people can rest easy that it really is good. I think that often we have no idea what the real thing must taste like. Ok, who an I kidding?
